Hi Folks, to address the two questions above:
- For the tenant-to-tenant migration question, you can enable backup if you want to restore a prior point in time of the source site before you delete the source tenant, but I don't think this is the right use case. Similar to what Woody* said, you're probably better off simply copying the content from the source to the destination and then not deleting the source until you've confirmed a proper move. The backup simply keeps a copy of the source anyways.
- The backups in Microsoft 365 Backup are stored on the infrastructure that powers Microsoft 365 (which in some cases is Azure). These are still geo-replicated for HADR, but the data stays logically within the Microsoft 365 trust boundary, which comes with relevant security and privacy expectations. Therefore, it's different than simply copying outside that trust boundary Azure.
